We will pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport – Time to be advised, meet and assist from Norbert Safaris & Adventures.
You will be welcomed with a cup of coffee, tea, and served with some delicious snacks, with a glass of champagne at your disposal.
The driver will help you with luggage in your comfortable transfer van and safely start to drive for 1 hour to your hotel in Arusha town.
You will be assisted to check in at the hotel, and later you will be provided with a proper briefing with our managers, who will also make sure you have all the necessary gears and ready to trek on the Mount Meru for 4 days.
From the hotel transfer to Arusha National Park, reaches the climb registration gate
At approximately 10:30 am to begin your climb, At the Momella gate Having registered with the park ranger in the reception, Have a hot Lunch in the well-dressed tourist shelter before trekking.
The Mountain Trail Passes through several different ecosystems during the three to five hours mountain trail hike. The hike begins along a seasonal stream through the open forest where grazing cape buffalo, giraffes, and warthogs reside.
Continue climbing through the woodland before Reaching Miriakamba Hut in the late afternoon, Miriakamba Hut offers beautiful views of the U-shaped Meru crater, the ash cone, and the towering cliffs that make up Meru’s crater walls.
After breakfast, leave Miriakamba and walk along with flat land before entering the montane forest. Continue hiking until you reach a brief opening in the woods called Elephant Ridge. The normal cloud cover of Arusha National Park burns off at about 3,200 meters. Saddle Hut lies at 3,570 meters.
The more energetic can summit Little Meru (3,820m) in the afternoon for breathtaking views of Meru and Kilimanjaro. The hike takes one to two hours round-trip. It does get cold on top of Little Meru so bring a jacket, gloves, and a hat.
Saddle Hut is very similar to Miriakamba Hut, and is well-maintained, with separate facilities for mountain staff and tourists.
After a light breakfast, begin the hike to Mount Meru’s summit, Socialist Peak.
Begin the morning with a steep climb up to Rhino Point (3,800m). Descend to cross a small rock bridge, and then continue going up and down over the mix of the rocky and sandy trail.
The trail involves rock scrambling and there are steep drops to either side of the trail in some places. Be sure to follow the green trail markers and your guide! Reach the crater rim around dawn and continue to Meru’s peak.
The views are spectacular all the way to the summit, offering close looks at the crater’s sheer walls, the ash cone, cloud formations, and the surrounding park. The hike to the summit is slow-going due to the sandy trail conditions, high winds, and altitude. Bring energy food to snack on during the hike. After taking photos, descend to Saddle for brunch and then to Miriakamba.
Descend to Momella Gate from Miriakamba Hut. The descent is fast unless it has rained
On the trail. First, pass through scrubland, then descend into the montane forest and Finally into the open grassland. If the trail is wet, we recommend using the road to Descend.
After reaching the gate, receive certificates for reaching the summits of Mount Meru and Little Meru. Thank your national park guide and mountain staff for the last time and return to Arusha for dinner and overnight at your destination

KLM Lara2023-10-15Verified Amazing day at Materuni with a hike to the Waterfall and coffee tour I did the Materuni Waterfall and coffee tour with Norbert and Noelia and it was absolutly awesome! The driver picked me up in the morning at home in Arusha and drove me to the starting point of the hike in Materuni. The scenery during the hike is absolutely amazing! After the Waterfall we went to the village to roast coffee beans and prepare our coffee in a traditional way and had a very delicious lunch afterwards. Thank you so much for this day with you! Blake M2023-09-06Verified Thank you GABRIEL at Norbert!! My son and I are so grateful to Gabriel Sanguyan, our safari guide in Tanzania from Norbert Safaris. He's funny, charming, and KNOWLEDGEABLE. I hit him with at least 1,000 questions during our three-day tour that included Ngorongoro N.P. and Tarangire N.P., and he was always handy with the answers about the fauna, flora, culture and history of his homeland. Thanks to his keen sense for the wildlife and topography, we enjoyed up-close viewing of four of "the big five" animals in the first hours. It's really impressive how a guide like Gabriel stays on target from dawn-to-dusk day after day, and his respectful approach to viewing paired well with our own humble awe as we enjoyed Africa's magnificence. Emmanuel L2023-07-05Verified The wonderful experience of wildlife Tanzania Norbert Safaris and Adventures has done a fantastic job to our safari experience with excellent planning and fantastic communication. Through WhatsApp, we were able to effectively communicate with them on the planning, and they weren't afraid to advise us if it was a bad idea through their experience, it was something that we appreciated. The team has gone the extra mile to ensure that our needs were met and that we were properly prepared for a day hike to Kilimanjaro National Park and our safari tour to Tarangirie National Park, Ngorongoro Crater and Lake Manyara. A big shout out to our guides Eli and Gabriel who were super patient and friendly with us. They provided us with great knowledge in our connection with nature that made this experience very meaningful. I highly recommend Norbert Safaris and Adventures for an unforgettable experience to the wildlife in Tanzania. Lorenzo Lodola2023-06-24Verified What a perfect first time in Africa😍 We had some really good times with Norbert sfaris and his guides.I’m on a wheelchair and I was a little bit worried about going to Africa for the first time, but Norbert made everything perfectly for a person with a disability, all the structures where we spent the night we’re beautifoul and perfectly accessible for a person on a wheelchair. Also our guides have been perfect, they took us in some areas of the park with less tourists in order to have a more exclusive ecperience… just us, the animals and the beautifoul landscapes of Africa, and for a wildlife photographer like me it is absolutely perfect.I’ll for sure recommend Norbert Safaris and his crew. We had an amazing time at all and were well taken care of by Norbert and his team even going the extra mile to assist us with our onward travels. He was very professional and kind and made the whole holiday stress free and wonderful. I would 100% recommend. Special thanks to Gabby as well for making sure we were safe and saw all the animals. Anne Robin2022-12-04Verified Stepping into the savanna at Tarangire. The whole day at Tarangire, which is famous for its elephants and baobabs, was fantastic. It s hard to say what I liked best! It started early and as we drove from Arusha to Tarangire, I was able to ask Norbert, Ibasea and Philippe questions about Tanzania, their childhood and education and their lives today. As we got closer to the park, it was interesting to note how present in the region the Masai tribe is. We arrived early and until lunchtime hardly saw another car. Being so close to the animals, especially the elephants and the monkeys, but also the zebras, the impalas and the giraffes was an amazing experience. I also very much enjoyed listening to Philippe who shared his in-depth knowledge of the park, its animals, its trees and plants. Driving through the park was an amazing experience, vast expanses of land before us and in the horizon blue mountains. We stopped for lunch and out of the hamper came out the most delicious fish curry I d eaten in all the five weeks I’d been in Tanzania. Along with it came rice and tasty vegetables, wine and beer and fresh fruit. I can testify that out of the fifteen or twenty tables around us we had the most refined lunch! After lunch, we drove on and spotted a leopard, lazily sleeping under a tree. Finally we stopped near an ancient baobab, wide and beautiful, imposing and welcoming. We stepped into its insides and looking up I could not help to think of a cathedral. More beautiful. Majestic and ancient. The day ended towards the end of the afternoon and a week on I’m still processing the experience. It was a wonderful day and I look forward to exploring another park with Norbert s team in the future.
